We get it. Tony’s naïve, (and, eventually, another character should call him on this.)

But this episode isn’t about Tony’s naiveté. It’s about Whitney Stane, Obadiah Stane’s daughter.

Her lack of obvious motivation throws a kink into the episode. She follows Tony like a puppy dog even though he ignores her, going so far as to lock her in a closet. Why would Whitney—a woman who’s not afraid to stand up to her billionaire father—play step ‘n fetch with Tony?

The obvious answer is that she’s attracted to him, but we get no explanation as to why. Whitney is portrayed as an attractive girl. Rhodey, Happy Hogan and even Gene Khan seemingly acknowledge this. Unless she’s into Stark for his money or mind—both acceptable explanations, but should be explicitly said—why would she settle on him?

Without this motivation, her actions in this episode seem arbitrary. And that’s too bad, because her actions are important.

I guess that’s it for this epi… oh, the plot? Really, I didn’t mention it? Well, it’s some stuff involving mind control. You’ve probably seen it before.
