Episode #34 - The Might of Doom Original Airdate - October 17th, 2011 The nefarious Doctor Doom has arrived in New York to collect the stolen Iron Man armor specs. Tony must give it everything he has to take on the nearly unstoppable villain! Written By Brandon Auman Directed By Stephane Juffe and Phillipe Guyenne Review by Arsenal Review: If nothing else, Armored Adventures did a better job with Dr. Doom in a single episode than all of Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Heroes. I think Doom fans will appreciate the villain’s depiction here. He’s brilliant, arrogant and portrayed as the single biggest threat of Stark’s short superhero career. At first, I thought the “The Might of Doom” would be another episode-long smackdown, akin to “Iron v. Titanium.” (That wouldn’t bother me too much. Armored Adventures has found its footing when it comes to action scene.) However, the script takes a more interesting tactic. Instead, the writers use Doom to highlight the conflict between science and magic. (This is the angle they should have been pushing last year with the Mandarin. Fortunately, the episode does tie Gene Khan and Doom’s “magic” together.) If this episode has any weakness, it spends too much time with Doom as opposed to the Stark-Rhodey-Pepper trio. However, if you’re only going to get Doom for one episode, this is how you want to use him.
One final note: Adrian Petriw, Stark’s voice actor, gets to shout “Doooooom!” and he wrings every last juicy melodramatic drop out of it. |
