 Review: Ghost must be a favorite of this show’s creative crew. Because whenever he makes an appearance, everything – the plotting, writing and animation – steps up a notch. And when you combine Ghost and the Black Widow? Well, that’s all but a sure thing. This episode puts a lot of players on the board: Justin Hammer, Obadiah Stane, Black Widow, Nick Fury, Ghost and, naturally, Tony Stark. More importantly, everyone’s agenda and motivation is clear. Hammer and Stane have hired Widow and Ghost, respectively, to steal something from SHIELD. Meanwhile, Widow frames Iron Man for the theft and Tony realizes that SHIELD is using stolen technology he created. Nobody makes stupid decisions just because the plot calls for it. No, this is character-based drama and it makes the first two acts sing. However, in the third act, Ghost, Black Widow, Hammer and Iron Man face off on a deserted island for the technological macguffin. And that sequence isn’t good. It’s great. In fact, it might be the best action sequence the show’s done. The fight scene tells a coherent story. It’s story boarded clearly and animated fluidly. It also includes beats for all of the characters. (I especially enjoyed Ghost’s threatening Hammer.)
Iron Man: Armored Adventures has spun gold by adapting the Armor Wars storyline from the comics and this episode stands as a high point. |
