Episode #37 - The Insidious Six
Original Airdate - November 2, 1996

Under the psychiatric care of Dr. Kafka, Eddie Brock has come to believe that Venom is a figment of his imagination. Then Baron Mordo tempts Eddie -- reunification with the alien symbiote that makes him as powerful as Venom.

Review:

After 2 full seasons worth of waiting, Venom finally returns. An interesting story to say the least, as how they planned on bringing him back after his appearance in the amazing “Alien Costume” storyline was a mystery that we’d been to see unravel for 2 years.

What’s interesting about this episode is that it’s relatively slow paced, unlike most of the episodes, which were told at a breakneck pace. The beginning sees a pre-Carnage Cletus Kassady, which I thought was great. We get to see what a ‘monster’ Kassady is before he becomes Carnage and now has a genuine reason to hate his captor, Spider-Man.

Afterwards, is where the episode takes a confusing turn, with the reappearance of Dormammu and Mordo, from the Dr. Strange episode. There was little need for them here, and with the guest star spots from Iron Man and War Machine; the number of characters was high.

The fight in the science hall was actually pretty well done. War Machine looked a lot cooler here than he ever did in the Iron Man cartoon, and Carnage actually had a very badass design. The scenes where his symbiote had just merged with him where animated beautifully! Despite the believe this episode butchered a classic character; it stands out as one of the best the series has to offer.
