Peter first met Shane when he saved him from an attack by a faulty Machine Man. After badly damaging his hands, his Mother, Naoko, the local Doctor, offered to treat his burns. When she asked if she could do anything else for him, he asked for a place to stay while he found his footing.
Peter stayed with Shane and his Mother throughout his entire stay on Counter Earth, and he ran into Spider-Man several times, thinking of him as an ally and then later a menace.
