Review: Slightly better than part one, but the previous episode’s problems continue here, The Inner Circle still absolutely suck. There are worse episodes of X-Men than this, no doubt, but considering how good the 3rd and final parts of this saga were, it’s amazing to compare them to the opening two, because the quality difference between them is massive.

There was half decent stuff with the actual X-Men, but the Jean Grey scenes simply weren’t too interesting, and again, The Inner Circle was painfully bad.

I didn’t know whether to laugh at the pirate scene or simply turn my head until it went away. I’ve always thought the X-Men simply didn’t work too well against your typical supervillian, I personally think the greatest X-Men villains are the ones who take part in their fight for mutant rights, whether they be against it (like Magneto being their polar opposite, or Sinister who simply wanted rid of all of them so he could create his own race)

The ending was the undoubted highlight, with Dark Phoenix finally emerging, and a cool cameo by Mastermind, who had only been posing as on the Inner Circle. It’s a shame most of this episode is bad, because the following 2 episodes are enjoyable, but unfortunately, they’re let down by this.
