Review: This episode features the return of one of my favourite villains, which was a surprise in itself, as I never thought we’d see him again! Given how good his ending was in his prior appearance, I’m glad Omega Red’s return wasn’t wasted.

With the strong theme of continuity in this show, just as Master Mold wanted revenge on the ones who previously defeated him, so did Omega Red. I thought this show did a great job with the big red Russian, and his ruthless nature is strongly shown once again. I loved how quickly he turned the whole situation around and how quickly he became a huge threat. I could’ve done without Wolverine’s rash stupidity, but I consider this to be every bit as strong as the previous Omega Red episode “Red Dawn”.

The animation in this episode is above the usual X-Men standard, and was actually performed by someone other than AKOM, in SEM. It’s not quite as pretty as the Philippines episodes, but it’s much better than AKOM, which, as you’ve gathered, isn’t difficult. For those of you who don’t remember AKOM or never watched this show, perhaps you’ll remember their “efforts” on Batman: The Animated Series, on episodes such as “Feat Of Clay, Part One”, “Cat Scratch Fever” and “I’ve got a Batman In My Basement”. They’re considered the worst of the worst, with good reason.

The ending is pretty creepy. I always like it when the finale has a little mystery thrown in there, even if it is something as simple as whether or not the villain is going to come back and haunt you. Very few episodes X-Men episode had the villains being sent off to jail (or a bus to Florida!) and I think we could’ve done with another appearance from Omega Red. Alas, the bitter zest of fate. A fitting finale to one of my favourite X-Men villains!
