Review: Combined forces, the first mutant, giant robots of Anubis and Ra—it gets no better, folks.

Dark Horizons Pt. II is another bevy of exposition, but this one comes with a dollop of robot-smashing action. The audience learns the origin of En Sabah Nur and the Eye of Ages, Mystique gets what’s coming to her, and Mesmero somehow dispatches three of the best hand-to-hand fighters in the series.

The fight scenes are fun, if a little silly. (Didn’t they fight giant robots in the last season finale?) But realistically, this is all about whetting the palette. This doesn’t so much end the season as prime you for the next one. Did anyone really think they were going to stop Apocalypse here?

The only flaw: a slow-motion, overwrought ending. In the time it took Apocalypse to dispatch the Acolytes/Brotherhood/X-Men, they could have smacked around a couple more Egyptian gods.
