Plot Summary:

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (WDSHE) brings the final seven episodes from the first season of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes to single-disc DVD release and things are looking pretty sharp. Given that this is the fourth release for The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, fans should now what to expect by now with this. Beginning with the packaging, it's the standard standard Amaray case tucked snugly in a foil-embossed cardboard slipcase. Simple and effective.

Digging in, WDSHE continues to provide great a solid general release for the series. In terms of audio and video, you really can't ask for better here on DVD. The widescreen transfer on all included episodes is pretty spectacular and stunning to look at. Yes, there's some slight compression and noticeable aliasing, but you won't see it unless you're looking for it. The colors are bright and vibrant, the blacks are solid, and everything appears smooth. This is a seriously high-quality transfer, something that seems to becoming a rarity on DVD thanks to Blu-ray. And not only will this show look great on your television, but it'll sound just as great! The English Dolby Digital 5.1 track is crystal clear and, at times, just thunderous. Action scenes pop and work all the channels, with quieter scenes sounding just as crisp. Given how action-intensive these final episodes are, you'll be very thankful for the audio mix. These final seven episodes just ramp up everything - action, suspense, all of it - and this transfer will suck you right into it!

Extras are slim but still enjoyable. Outside of the standard collection of trailers, including a trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger, bonus content consists of a simple trivia track. The trivia is as basic as possible and offers nothing new. I'm sure even the newest of fans would roll their eyes at the incredible simplistic track. Disappointing after the great extras from the first two volumes.

My gripes here are pretty minimal. Aside from the very weak extras, my only concern is that I wish this WDSHE released a two-disc containing the last thirteen episodes set as opposed to two single-disc volume releases. I really don't mind, since this title follows the previous wave of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes DVDs that WDSHE released earlier in the year, but I do worry that fans will just dismiss these DVDs. The repurposed cover art also concerns me that some might overlook these completely, thinking they're the previous releases back on the shelves. Still, I urge fans to support these titles so we can keep seeing episodes released down the line. A third volume was released alongside a this single-disc DVD collection of with the final seven episodes from the first season of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, so be sure to get the matching set!

Basically, if you picked up the first The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes DVD releases, then you need this one (and the third release!). It's a nice collection of episodes with a small smattering of bonus content at least worth a go through or two. But the main draw are the episodes and, boy, this show really upped its game in these final 13 episodes. Our heroes face the big guns here and the show does not disappoint. Without giving away spoilers, The Avenges face some of their biggest threats and boy, does this show put them through the ringer. It's really great nail-biting stuff that comic fans will dig. These are some truly amazing adventures worth watching, and are very accessible to young viewers, casual fans, or the die-hard followers! Toss in some excellent audio/video quality and this release is a must have for fans. The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes - Volume Four: Thor's Last Stand! is not to be missed!
