Episode #53 - Blotto


A reclusive director whose grotesque films were shunned by the general public invents a “spirit scope” to bring his horrifying creations off the screen

Review:

If you're not an admirer of repetitive stock animation and scenes of a monstrous ink stain eating an endless supply of light poles, parked cars, and skyscrapers, this is probably not for you. But for those of us who grew up with the show, the episode is another mildly entertaining delight.

The animation is severely limited, but there are several nice instances of humor as Blotto slithers through the streets of New York City. Right before they run across the creature, Peter's car slows to halt and he informs the actress that they've run out of gas. With a dry tone and a thick accent (take that, Zsa Zsa Gabor), she replies: “I zink I've heard that one before.” Bakshi might not be the greatest director in the history of animation, but he's certainly got an ear for one liners.

Naturally, another green skinned villain shows up in the form of the filmmaker who creates Blotto, and he's less than memorable. But it's his eternally angry-looking creation who commands most of the episode's run time, for better or worse, and this adventure should be enough to entertain kids and fans of the show alike
