Episode #2 - The Crime Of All Centuries Written By: Donald F. Glut Music Composed By: John Douglas Guest Starring: Robert Rigley as Kraven the Hunter Review: The second episode sees the introduction of one of Spidey’s foes from way back in the day – Kraven The Hunter. Kraven has always been a bit lame to me, he’s never really come across as very threatening and his dodgy, dodgy facial hair doesn’t really help matters. Even back in the Lee/Ditko days, I’ve always thought that Kraven was one of the weaker villains but cartoons offer a chance to improve upon the flaws of the comics by tweaking or flat out changing certain aspects of the character to make them more interesting. One could argue that they succeeded with Kraven, as he is a lot more of a threat than he is in the comics, and actually held his own against the Spider-Friends. I thought they found a great voice for Kraven it simply fitted perfectly. He’s not put on some silly accent like Gregg Berger did in Spider-Man: The Animated Series and he’s nowhere near as lame as The Hunter from Spider-Man Unlimited. He’s not quite as cool as Kraven from Spider-Man: The New Animated Series, but let’s be honest, few things are. The plot of the episode could only come from the 1980’s – Kraven needs Firestar’s heat powers in order to create a race of dinosaurs that he will use to conquer New York. No, Kraven wasn’t interested in living the sweet in LA; he had to come to New York. Firestar gets a little more screen time than she did in the pilot and there are some pretty cool fights of the Spider-Friends fighting dinosaurs. There’s a few annoying scenes with Ms. Lions, but at least she didn’t save the day here. Lots of fun to be had here, even if it is mostly fluff. Screenshots:
