Review: An episode title like “Days of Future Past” promises a lot. Longtime comic readers know this story simply by name. Of course given the complexities of the comic version, this animated series could no way properly adapt it.

Instead, they take the basic premise of the original story and add a 90's twist. The twist? Everyone’s favorite jerry-curled time-traveler Bishop taking over the job originally assigned to Kitty Pryde! Now, there’s more changes than that, but that one right there is the major one. The goal is still to stop the assassination of an important political figure, but now it’s in the hand of Bishop.

The episode does work, too. They take tremendous liberties with the original tale, but the end result is actually quite successful. It’s an engaging two-parter with two brilliant cliffhangers.

If there is any real complaint, it’s the amnesia Bishop obtains when coming to “our” time, forever dated in the 1990s. Even more ludicrous is how he remembers his mission, which is jogged back into his brain after two kids run by with a game cartridge for a game called “Assassin,” starring everyone’s favorite nutball The Punisher!

Pretty hokey but it does get the episode moving along again. After a quick stop off at the mansion to try and gun down the supposed assassin, apparently Gambit, the X-Men head off to try and protect the target from being taken out. Pretty cut and dry, but a great yarn nonetheless.
