Episode #2 - Night Of The Sentinels, Part Two Music Composed By: Shuki Levy Animation Services By: AKOM Guest Starring: Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Norm Spencer as Cyclops, Cedric Smith as Professor Charles Xavier, Iona Morris as Storm, Chris Potter as Gambit, Lenore Zann as Rouge, George Buza as Beast, Catherine Disher as Jean Grey, Court as Jubille, Ron Rubin as Morph, Len Carlson as Senator Kelly, Barry Flatman as Henry Peter Gyrich and David Fox as The Sentinels. Review: Picking up where part one left off, this is where the story started kicking into high gear, and The Sentinels really started making their presence felt. Unlike the majority of the first part, they were a force to be reckoned with as they completely and utterly whooped the X-Men asses.The breaking and entering was pretty standard stuff, but as soon as they were caught is where the episode started picking up. There was an absolutely brilliant shot of a Sentinel towering over a bunch of trees, draped in shadows right before Wolverine’s “Tin woodsman! I’m sending you back to Oz! In pieces!” The fight itself was one of the show’s most memorable moments; they lost 2 team members in the space of 4 minutes. Killing someone on a Saturday morning was basically unheard of back then, and having one of the team of heroes get arrested? And not be released minutes later? Some very bold moves and we’re only 2 episodes in. Beast’s arrest was especially well done, I thought it was one of the more ballsy moves the show did, and it paid off in the season’s finale. This episode served as the start to a great little plot. The scene outside the Blackbird (yes, the Blackbird, not the X-Jet damn you Singer!) was brutal. That punch in the gut s till makes me hold my stomach every single time I see it. I actually think it worked better than a first to the head would. Even as a kid I thought it was nasty. There are some oddities in the episode. When Morph locks the security guards in the room at the registration centre, the silhouette we see before he locks it is Gambit’s, not Morph’s. Also, Gyrich plays a tape of Gambit saying, “Don’t mess with the X-Men”, only Gambit never actually said it. A little weird, but with episodes as good as this one, it’s forgivable. The only real downer is Jubilee. She constantly annoyed throughout the series, everything from her attitude to her voice was cringe worthy.
